Crinoids (Sea Lilies)

Pentacrinites fossilis
50x50x4 cm, 7.2 kg,
Sinemurium, Black Ven Marls, Lyme Regis, England
Crinoid colony with over 12 perfectly preserved individuals.

A spectacular old find from about 50 years ago, finds of this type have not been made since then. Comparable pieces can be found in numerous museums.
Pentacrinites of this locality is of a similar age as Holzmaden, the deposit environment and the pseudoplanktonic way of life are also identical.
Pieces of this size are inevitably always recovered in several parts and must be put together professionally. There was no need for any additions (no composite), the back was stabilized by attaching two hooks for wall mounting. An extremely rare piece of museum quality.

Pentacrinus briareus
Holzmaden, Lias Epsilon I/2
25.5x17x2 cm

Very rare crinoid species, Pentacrinus with typical pentamere stem cross section (not circular as with common Seirocrinus) and phantastic cirri allover the stem. Delicate plate, the break, properly fixed together, does not affect the fossil. Otherwise all natural, zero restauration, comes with wall hanging moulds (V8 steel).

Seirocrinus subangularis
Holzmaden, Lias Epsilon I/2
54x50x2.5 cm

Very aesthetic, complete Seirocrinus on an unbroken plate (!), in outstanding quality, revealing detailed crown and pinnulae due to calcite conservation with a minor pyrite degree. All natural, zero fossil restauration, no composite. Good size with 25 cm diameter crown and 30 cm stem. Comes with wall hanging moulds (V8 steel).

Seirocrinus subangularis
30x25 cm
Holzmaden,  Lias Epsilon I/2

Decorative plate with a complete Holzmaden crinoid at an unbeatable price!
Unbroken plate, no fixings. No composite, all natural!

Seirocrinus subangularis
40x40 cm
Lias epsilon, Fleins; Holzmaden, weight 13.8 kg

Pentacrinites dichotomus
100x37 cm
Lias epsilon, Fleins; Holzmaden, weight 13.8 kg

This Plate shows two very rare crinoids. Pentacrinites is distinct from Seirocrinus: It shows not round shaped but hexagonal shaped columns of the stem. Furthermore, the stems show cirri. And finally: Short stems are attached to a close (drifting) wood. All features are revealed at that plate.I am not aware that any Pentacritines from Holzmaden is offered on the market (there is one misleadingly described Pentacrinites, but Seiricrinus instead). This plate shows a decent repair at the edge, where to plates accurate were fixed together. The branch is as the crinoids all natural. Other wood pieces offered at the market commonly are not naturally attached to the stems and even worse, wood consits of recycled crumble of Gagat, that was shaped for asthetic reasons. The matrix is at natural condition, that means there is no coating that enhances the dark brown (wettened effect). Preservation is in total very good. The large crown and stem show excellent details with a minimum of disarticulation, the smaller crown is lightly twisted, but shows wonderful cirri. Summarizing this is an ultra-rare asthetic piece for the serious crinoid collector or studying purpose.
